If you could somehow snap your fingers and take away all the advances made in the past century - technology, civil rights, etc. - Jehovah's Witnesses would cry: "It's the Great Tribulation!"

IC 2014 talk: "A Century of Kingdom Rule Contrasted With a Century of Satans Rule"
by AnnOMaly ina discussion of this talk on friday morning deserves its own thread.
as i said elsewhere, it was a remarkable one.
the speaker was manfred vencebi (google him - he's a bethel bigwig) and some of his remarks are real gems.

US Supreme Court: Hobby Lobby wins we lose
by designs inthe old guys sided with hobby lobby today in denying birth control coverage to its female employees based on the owners religious views.
intact- is viagra for the guys.
funny how the far right evangelical owners of hobby lobby didn't want to touch that one.... read judge ginburg's scathing counter argument and opinion.. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/13pdf/13-354_olp1.pdf.

From the NY Times: "Justice Alito said he accepted for the sake of argument that the government had a compelling interest in making sure women have access to contraception. But he said there were ways of doing that without violating the companies’ religious rights."
A company has religious rights?
I live in a bizzare land.

I swear, scientists could proclaim that they've cured every type of cancer known to man and the WT would trump that with something like "We had 3,000 hits on our website in one day!"
Narcissists.

For love
by fredPotato inhi there folks,.

I second JAMIEBOWERS.
Washing the dishes/cleaning the house when she's gone; the glass of wine when she gets home. . . etc. . .. Be creative.
Make your not going to meetings/service the best thing that ever happened to her.
BTW FREDPOTATO - your screen name "resonates" with me - won't go into details. But when you first posted and I saw it, I SWORE it was someone I know!

The Ravings of Trolls Distracts FOCUS From Real Watchtower Scandals
by cofty inmy thread was inspired by gentledawn's insightful comment about the effect the events in wales had on her jw husband.... hope any lurkers out there can filter out the signal (storys and experiences like this) to noise (the current trolls running amok on the forums) ratios.
this the problem with those who focus on outrageous fantasies about the watchtower.
it distracts from the real issues that need to be highlighted.. what happened in wales was for real.

This is why I would never (if this situation ever arose) direct anyone interested in knowing TTATT to this forum or any other, for that matter.
However, I would encourage them to look at jwfacts.com as everything on their is spot-on and backed up by evidence.
This is kind of sad, since their is a lot of great stuff hidden around here that jwfacts doesn't get into, but then there's the "noise" which someone just waking up could find disturbing to the point of disrupting their progress out of the cult.
But once they know TTATT and want some support, sure, a place like jwn is great.

Cults and Convergent Evolution
by cognisonance ina thought popped in my mind on the way to work today.
most jws don't think they are in a cult (or an organization with many cult-like features).
this isn't really surprising considering most cults dont think they are, well, a cult.

How Best to Kill off the Disgusting Old Whore of Brooklyn
by Focus ini have been absent from the anti-wts scene for a decade.. for some of this time, prominent bethelite has prepared a version of the list of watchtower lies and insanity which is about 50 (yes, fifty) times larger than its predecessor.. for some details, read here:.
http://hourglass2.com/forum/index.php?id=1702.
i would welcome views thereon.. it is to be anticipated that the filthy spiritual-pornographer society would respond with robust legal action to prevent dissemination of this work, misusing copyright and other law to repress it.. one can arrange for the entire new work to be placed, in downloadable pdf format, on the internet, in an enormous variety of hard-to-remove-from places.. i welcome views and commentary.. --.

The problems Bible believers have with Atheists is the burden of proof is on the Believer and we just do not have enough proof.
by booker-t ini recently posted a post telling this board my athesit coworker stumped me with questions about the validity of the ark story and i just cannot stop talking to her.
i love hearing her side and point of view which in the past i would have dismissed as "satanic" thinking.
she has some very good questions and i am having a hard time answering them.

It's nice to be able to have a discussion on a topic you don't neccesarily agree with, but with an open mind and without the WT guilt for thinking "wrong thoughts." That in itself is a liberating experience, even if you don't "change sides."
Talking with "worldy people" outside the context of trying to convert them is wonderful!

Kicking the "Gay Habit" at the IC
by breakfast of champions inheard from a reliable source that this was part of friday's program.
they even interviewed a "former gay man" who "kicked the gay habit".. evidently kicking the "gay habit" is difficult, not unlike quitting smoking or avoiding sugary snacks.
the persons who related this to me found the whole thing to be laughable at best, but honestly seemed quite disturbed by it (which is good!
